Amit Garg, a 1993-batch IPS officer, has been posted as Police Commissioner of Visakhapatnam. He is likely to assume office on Monday.

The city has been without a full-time Police Commissioner ever since the transfer of B. Shivadhar Reddy in May last year. Mr. Reddy was transferred to Telangana as Chief of the Intelligence Department.

Earlier, Amit Garg had worked in Vizianagaram district as Additional SP and as Vijayawada Police Commissioner.

In a reshuffled of IPS officers on Saturday, Deputy Inspector-General (Visakha Range) P. Umapati had been transferred and posted as DIG and Joint Managing Director (V&S) of APTransco and A. Ravichandra was posted in his place.
