Assets worth ₹3.58 crore unearthed from his possession

Andhra Medical College professor Nalli Babu Vijay Kumar was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials here on Friday for possessing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The assets unearthed worth (as per document value) ₹3.58 crore, but sources in the ACB said that the market value would be close to ₹30 crore.

The assets include a house site (400 square yards) in Visakhapatnam, a site at Kakinada, building (G+2) on 400 square yards and a doctor’s chamber.

This apart, the properties registered in the name of his wife Pamu/ Nalli Nirmala Jyothi include a flat and house sites in Visakhapatnam and a house site at Kakinada.

The properties seized also include 0.72 cents of land in health city in Visakhapatnam valued at about ₹5.6 crore in the name of the accused person’s elder daughter Nalli Ramya.

According to ACB DSP (Vizag urban) Kinjarapu Ramakrishna Prasad, the site was purchased by Nalli Babu with a fair amount of contribution from Pamu Panduranga Rao, engineer-in-chief of Public Health and Municipal Engineering.

As per the deed, about ₹1.6 crore was invested by Nalli Babu and the remaining was invested by Panduranga Rao, who was also caught in a raid on Friday.

Both Nalli Babu and Panduranga Rao worked as medical officer and Chief Engineer respectively in GVMC together and coincidentally, Panduranga Rao’s surname matched with the maternal surname of Nalli Babu’s wife Pamu/ Nalli Nirmala.

Both families were about to get into a relationship with Panduranga Rao’s son getting into alliance with Nalli Babu’s elder daughter Dr. Nalli Ramya.

And in this connection, Panduranga Rao had invested the money in Ashwini Hospitals that is coming up in the health city, said Mr. Ramakrishna Prasad.

Moveable assets

Moveable assets seized include three cars, a scooter, 2.4 kg gold, 3.58 kg silver, household articles worth ₹8.5 lakhs and bank balances of ₹1.9 lakh.

Dr. Nalli Babu joined government services in1988 as civil assistant surgeon and worked in the primary health centre at Konithiwada and Veeravasam in West Godavari district.

He was transferred to Andhra Medical College in 1990 as assistant professor and was later promoted to the post of professor in 2006.
