AITUC national general secretary Amarjeet Kaur on Sunday said that the time had come to intensify the struggle against the ‘anti-working class’ policies of the Narendra Modi-led NDA Government.

Ms. Kaur, who was here to take part in the working committee meeting of AITUC, told reporters at Ukkunagaram that there was a systematic bid to privatise everything and dismantle public sector organisations. Labour laws were being diluted so as to give complete freedom to private managements to deny minimum wages and social security to the workers.

The AITUC leader made it very clear that the movement would be to protect public sector industries. She said the Narendra Modi Government was vigorously pursuing disinvestment in profit-making PSUs.

“The Central Government is ready to sell 100% of equity in Salem, Bhadravathi and Alloy Steel Plants of SAIL. The Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman would not benefit the working class, especially the public. Petrol and diesel prices have been increased putting a heavy burden on the common man. There is a need for a united struggle against the policies of the government,” she said.

Over 130 delegates from 29 States attended the AITUC working committee meeting to take stock of the situation after the re-election of NDA for a second term.

AITUC national vice-president D. Adinarayana said that the NDA was firm on weakening the public sectors.
