Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has directed the officials concerned to improve order book of cash-starved Hindustan Shipyard Limited to improve its financial health. In response to a mention made by Rajya Sabha member T. Subbarami Reddy during Zero Hour, the Minister said the Ministry of Defence was aware of the financial crisis and hardship being faced by the shipyard.
He said he had given directions to all concerned to take necessary steps to revive HSL by improving its order book position and through meticulous planning both in the short as well as long term. HSL, a Ministry of Defence enterprise, is at present having an order book of around Rs.1500. Since it was brought under the Ministry of Defence from Shipping, it has not been given a single high value order.
