Motorists seeking driving licence (DL) need not do the rounds of Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Office, e-Seva or Mee-Seva centres any more as the Transport Department has made arrangements to do all the works pertaining to it, except for the learner’s licence (LLR) test and DL test online.

Now, the licence holders or the people seeking new licence can submit applications by logging on to .

Aadhaar seeding

However, to avail of the facility on web platform through cellphones, laptop and desktop, the service-seekers need to integrate their Aadhaar details and cellphone numbers with the Transport Department. Those, who have not done it so far, can do it online by clicking on the ‘Aadhaar seeding’ window and submitting the necessary details.

There are two options – biometric (thumb capture) and OTP (One Time Password) – and those using cellphones, laptops and desktops without a scanner facility should choose the second option.

How it works

After getting the OTP on cellphone, the applicants can proceed further. For works pertaining to driving licence, the service-seekers need to select the DL window and enter their licence numbers, date of birth and details of the office where the DL was issued last.

The system will display the ‘auto approved’ message, if the details available on the official database and that the one given by the applicant match by more than 70%. If the details furnished by applicants and those available with the department match below 70 %, the system will ask for the applicants’ photo and licence to be uploaded through cellphones. The applicants can get further status on their cellphones and act accordingly.

“The move will end the hassles of running around the counters seeking information as most of the work can be done online on the easily navigable website. The applicants seem to be unaware that most of the works pertaining to driving licence can be done through their cellphones,” Deputy Transport Commissioner S. Venkateswara Rao told The Hindu .

Renewal made easy

“Renewal of driving licence can also be done online. There is no need of submitting or returning the old DL to the RTA. Endorsement LLR can also be obtained on this platform. This is applicable to those who have a permanent DL for two-wheelers and plan to take an LLR for a four-wheeler. They need not take the LLR test afresh and can directly obtain the LLR online,” Mr. Venkateswara Rao explained.

However, for motorists desiring a change of ownership of vehicles, the thumb impression of the owner will be required and it can’t be done through cellphones, he added.
