A small initiative launched by NGO Chaitanya Sravanti has proved to be a hit with over 5000 members of Gruhalakshmi Mutual-Aided Cooperative Society contributing three fistfuls of rice each every month to feed inmates of a night shelter at Dwarakanagar for the last one year.

Speaking at a meeting organised by Chaitanya Sravanti and Gruhalakshmi to mark the anniversary of the initiative here on Thursday, Municipal Commissioner M. Hari Narayanan lauded the services of Chaitanya Sravanti’s contribution to woman empowerment and self-reliance during its 30 years of functioning. Rice and ₹.30,000 to a night shelter, ₹.1 lakh towards Anna Canteen and ₹.25000 to a representative of Akshya Patra were given away on the occasion. Chaitanya Sravanti president Shirin Rahaman said the NGO was waging a relentless battle against social evils. She said they were extending help topoor and downtrodden.

Former MLA S.A. Rahaman, UCD Project Director D. Srinivasan and former governor Lions Club Durga Prasad participated.
