Waltair Division nets highest-ever earnings

The Waltair Division of East Coast Railway (ECoR) achieved its highest ever total earnings of Rs.7,034.58 crore for the financial year 2015-16. The earnings increased by 4.82 per cent more in freight revenue and 8.25 per cent more on the passenger front in 2015-16 compared to the previous financial year, Divisional Railway Manager Chandralekha Mukherjee has said.

Addressing the gathering at the 61{+s}{+t}Railway Week celebrations of Waltair Division here on Tuesday, the DRM recalled the performance and achievements of the Division during the last financial year, the passenger amenities taken up and the major events during the year.

She said the division had achieved an originating loading of 55.66 MT thereby achieving earnings of Rs.6456.84 crore. The increase in loading was mainly due to increase in the loading of coal, fertilizers, steel, POL and alumina. The originating passenger traffic of 35.05 million earned the division Rs.468.90 crore as against Rs.433.51 crore earned during 2014-15.

A total of 367 trips of special trains were run and 513 extra coaches were attached to various express trains to clear the extra rush of passengers. The Superfast AP AC Express was introduced as a tri-weekly during 2015-16, Ms. Mukherjee said. She briefed about the Swachch Bharat Abhiyan undertaken by the Division, introduction of four ‘green trains’ and provision of 259 coaches with bio-toilets.

Waltair Division received 11 efficiency shields, including the overall efficiency shield at the zonal-level function held on May 27. Rayagada bagged the ‘Best Major Clean Station’ and Kottavalasa bagged the ‘Best Small Clean Station’. She called upon the employees to focus on cleanliness, innovation and better service.

The DRM presented cash awards and merit certificates to the employees.
