A walkathon was organised by The Hindu in association with Shriram Panorama Hills to mark the World Environment Day on Saturday.
The walkathon that started from the NTR statue near R.K. Beach was flagged off by Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Commissioner V.N. Vishnu. Members of various walkers' clubs of the city participated in the event, apart from the general public.
Shriram Panorama Hills distributed 18,000 leaflets containing tips for protection of environment. The objective of the programme was to create awareness about the importance and advantages of being environment-friendly.
A symposium was organised on the eve of World Environment Day at the Platinum Jubilee Hall of Andhra University on the theme ‘Biodiversity – ecosystems management and the green economy.

Shriram Panorama Hills, a project promoted by Shriram Properties of Shriram Group, is to be Vizag's first Sky Scrapers located on the foothills of the scenic Yendada-Madhurawada region of Visakhapatnam. The gated residential community spreads across 80 acres and comprises 231 villas, over 2,310 apartments, clubhouses, shopping mall, provision for a luxury hotel with star facilities and an international-standard school.
Shriram Panorama Hills has about 80 per cent open space, 14 parks, three clubhouses, perennial waterfall, 23.4 acres of landscaping, five km of jogging tracks, valley view points, avenue plantation and drip irrigation system.
Jurong Consultants (India) Private Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Jurong International, Singapore, is the architect, structural designer and quality manager of this project.
