A high-level team from Nepal was promised by the Visakhapatnam Port Trust on Wednesday that steps will be taken up to provide full support to traders in the Himalayan country to use the local port for transhipment of various cargoes.

VPT Deputy Chairman P.L. Haranadh gave a presentation on facilities available in the port to the visiting officials. The team consisted of Under Secretaries Buddhi Prasad Upadhaya (Ministry of Commerce), Dinesh Sagar Bhusal (Office of PMO and Council of Ministers), Ram Prasad Subedi (Foreign Affairs) and Devi Prasad Sharma (Finance).

Mr. Haranadh gave a PowerPoint presentation and invited the Nepal Government to make use of the facilities and to trade with India through VPT. He told the team that Visakhapatnam Port was a secured, transparent and e-Port and that the Nepal trade would benefit by making use of it.

The Nepal team wanted to know the facilities and operational logistics for movement of their cargo more effectively and efficiently through Visakhapatnam Port compared to Kolkata Port and informed that they were impressed with the facilities and asked the authorities to extend some concessions to attract more business from Nepal traders. The Nepal team also hinted that if necessary they would open an office to facilitate business documentation at Visakhaaptnam Port or else it would be done through Embassy in New Delhi. The Deputy Chairman told them that their request would be examined to attract cargo from Kolkata bound for Nepal to Visakhapatnam. The Nepal team also expressed confidence that they would do better business in the days ahead.
