In a tragic incident, two engineering students from East Godavari district drowned in a beach near Rajavaram area of Payakaraopeta mandal in Visakhapatnam district. The incident happened when the duo came the beach to take a holy dip on the occasion of Nagapournami festival.
The deceased were identified as D. Nanaji (19) and Ch. Venkata Prudhvi (19). While Nanaji hails from L Kotturu region, Prudhvi is a resident of S Annavaram of East Godavari district. The duo are pursuing B.Tech first year in a private college near Tuni of East Godavari district
According to Payakaraopeta Inspector G. Prasad, the deceased along with another friend T. Ashok had come to the beach to take a holy dip.
All the three entered the waters and Nanaji and Prudhvi were dragged deep into the sea by strong currents, while Ashok who was closer to the shore survived.
After receiving information, the police launched a search operation and fished out the bodies. Police said the bodies were handed over to the family members after post-mortem. A case has been registered in Payakaraopeta Police Station and investigation is on.
