There was glamour, excitement and a show of confidence and poise as 11 contestants from different parts of Andhra Pradesh contested for the top three spots of the State level audition rounds of the 54th edition of Miss India 2017 held for the first time in the city on Friday.

Of the 11, three contestants were selected who would be representing AP in the south zonal rounds of the Miss India beauty contest to be held in Bangalore on March 5.

At the end of a day-long session wherein the contestants were judged on various criteria like confidence, body language and style among other parameters, Sarvani Uppati from Tirupati and Vizag girls Srishti Vyakaranam and Sindhura Kaviti made it to the top three positions.

Overwhelming response

The State-level auditions saw an overwhelming response from aspiring models and some who had already established themselves in the glamour world and wanted to try their chance of representing India in a global platform. The auditions were judged by Sailesh Bolisetti, a car racer and upcoming actor.

The three winners of the Vizag round of auditions will contest with the other winners from the five southern States in Bangalore where the most deserving contestant from each of the five southern States of AP, Telangana, Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu will represent their State at the grand finale of Miss India to be held in Mumbai in June.

Expressing excitement at the end of the State-level auditions, the winners said this was a big platform to gain entry into the glamour world. Srishti Vyakaranam, who represented India last year at the Miss Asia Pacific International beauty pageant in Philippines, is trying her luck again to get back the crown.

“This time I am back with more preparation and have worked hard on my diction and fitness levels,” said the software-engineer-turned-model who completed her higher education and engineering from Vizag.

For Sarvani Uppati, graduate in neuro-sciences, it was her first experience on the ramp and she was all geared up to represent the State in the next level of the beauty contest.

Sindhura Kaviti, winner of Miss Vizag 2013 and MBBS graduate, said getting the crown of Miss India was a long-cherished dream and this was a step forward towards it.
