Three persons, including a home guard constable, died on the spot and five others were injured, including one seriously, when the driver of a lorry lost control and ploughed into the incoming traffic from the opposite direction here at NAD Kotha Road on Tuesday night. As per the immediate assessment by the police and eye witnesses on the spot, the lorry that was moving from the city side to Gajuwaka first jumped the red signal at the NAD Junction and rammed into the divider.

The driver then lost control and ploughed into the incoming traffic. Before ramming into a couple of cars and bikes, the vehicle ran over a home guard constable on duty. Those killed were identified as one Ramesh, a lab technician, and Constable Ch. Srinivas Rao. The identity of the third person was not known till late night.

The accident occurred around 9 p.m. and the traffic at the spot came to a standstill for quite some time. Commissioner of Police J. Poornachandra Rao and other high-ranking officers visited the spot. The driver of the lorry fled the scene and the police are investigating the case. The injured were shifted to KGH.
