January 11, 2017 12:52 am | Updated 12:52 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Tenders are likely to be called in a month for construction of the proposed flyover at NAD Kotha Road junction.

The construction, to be taken up under the aegis of the Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA), would be completed in one-and-half year, Collector Pravin Kumar has said.

The Collector participated in the Janmabhoomi programme held at Old Gopalapatnam here along with MLA P.G.V.R. Naidu on Tuesday.

The flyover, to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs.100 crore, would be unique in the country. A few designs have already been considered and they would be finalised soon. A road from Gopalapatnam – NSTL, parallel to the BRTS Road, would be taken up soon. The problems in the acquisition of land for this road, will be resolved and construction of the road was likely to be taken up soon, he said.

The regularisation of house sites at Durgapuram could not be done as it was linked to the Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT). The regularisation would be done once VPT was shown alternative land. He said talks would be held with the Railway authorities to tide over the level crossing problem at Old Gopalapatnam.

Gas connections

The Collector said measures were being taken to provide gas connection to every household in the district by the March-end. There were 50,000 families in the city, which have no gas connection. They would be sanctioned gas connections, if they apply for the same.

The regularisation of house plots below 100 square yards, as per G.O. 296, was taken up in a big way in the city. A total of 35,000 plots were regularised so far and another 5,000 would be done soon.

Those who had not applied so far could still do so. He said land, valued at Rs.4,000 crore, was regularised in the city.

The MLA said e-medical centre would soon be opened at Lakshminagar.

The Collector and the MLA distributed cheques under various schemes, LED bulbs and house site pattas to beneficiaries.

GVMC Zonal Commissioner Shivaji participated in the programme.
