Telugu Desam party on Saturday staged a massive dharna at day-and-night junction opposing the hike in prices of petroleum products.
Telugu Desam activists formed a human chain preventing the traffic in the busy junction to draw the attention of the public over the ‘steep' hike in prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas.
Former MP Kinjarapu Yerrannaidu urged the public to oppose the anti-people policies of the Congress led UPA government at the centre. “Cascading affect on every section will be more with the hike in petroleum charges. Prices of all essential commodities will increase within no time as transport sector will shift the burden on people,” he added.
‘Extra burden'
“The UPA government slashed the prices before the general elections to get the political mileage.
After the election, it enhanced the rates several times, causing unprecedented burden on the people,” he added.
Earlier, TD local leaders and activists burnt the effigy of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and raised slogans against the government.
Traffic was disrupted for more than half an hour with the programme of opposition party.
