Several months after government announced taking up construction of a flyover at the NAD Kotha Road- one of the busiest junctions in the city- the design is yet to be finalised. To take into consideration all opinions and technical aspects, VUDA now intends to keep the design on its website. "In the next few days the design that has been discussed widely and presented to the Chief Minister will be placed on the website and public opinion will be invited," sources told The Hindu .

After the process of public consultation is completed, finally it will be placed before the Chief Minister again. Tenders are expected to be called after finalsing the design for the construction of flyover the need for which is felt for a long time now, say sources.

With the highway running through the city connecting the industrial area and the populous Gajuwaka and the airport located past NAD and air traffic increasing multi-fold, the busy junction has been a bottleneck.

The flyover is among several projects VUDA is tasked by the Chief Minister to take up raising funds. The estimated cost is Rs.150 crore.

A Chennai-based consultancy selected after calling for expression of interest (EoI) by VUDA has prepared four designs. The district Collector held meetings with officials, PSUs and various stake holders including Visakhapatnam Port Trust, the Railways, the National Highways, the Police, RTC, among others, on the design. Another meeting was convened with experts from engineering colleges.

After taking all the suggestions, one design was selected and presented to the Chief Minister during his visit to the city. At the meeting attended by Ministers and MLAs, a prominent engineering company also came out with a design. The Chief Minister wanted both the designs to be further studied.
