District Collector N. Srikanth on Thursday said that inquiry into the sanction of granite lease to Rammanohar Naidu, son of Roads and Buildings Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao, on Kannedhara hills would resume in a week.
The Collector, who came to Seethampeta to attend the ITDA governing body meeting, had to face the ire of representatives of various civil society groups and tribal people's associations over what they called the inordinate delay in completing the inquiry.
They alleged that the officials yielded to the pressure being mounted by political higher-ups and stopped the inquiry citing law and order problem.
The government, which had completed almost 90 per cent of the inquiry, could not finish the task after the attack of mining officials on Kannedhara hills two months ago.
Local people staged a dharna at the ITDA office, seeking a clarification over the delay in completing the inquiry. Mr. Srikanth said that the inquiry would begin in a week and the final report sent to the government.
Puliputti sarpanch S. Mukhalingam accused the Dharmana family with being instrumental in the delay.
