VISAKHAPATNAM: Union Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu has selected Pandrangi village, the birthplace of revolutionary Alluri Sitarama Raju, for development under ‘adarsh gram’ (ideal village), an initiative promoted under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY).
Mr. Prabhu was elected to Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh.
A communication to this effect was sent to the District Collector by the Minister’s office, asking the former to take necessary action.
Pandrangi in Padmanabham mandal of the district falls in Bheemunipatnam Assembly constituency.
Alluri Sitarama Raju’s mother hailed from the village, where the ancestral house in which he was born was located.
It had been sold away, but some villagers acquired it later and developed it as a memorial.
It has the statues of Alluri Sitarama Raju and his mother.
Pandrangi panchayat has a population of 5,398.
Under SAGY guidelines, members of Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha have to identify e-gram panchayat with a population between 3,000 and 5,000.
Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha member K. Haribabu thanked Mr. Suresh Prabu for selecting Pandrangi village.
He said that the birth place of Alluri Sitarama Raju was likely to get national recognition as a historic site.
