Telugu Desam Party, Bharateeya Janata Party, Left parties and Praja Rajyam party on Saturday organised rasta-rokos and protest rallies separately in the district demanding the Centre to roll back the increased prices of petrol, diesel, kerosene and LPG.
BJP district president P. Sanyasi Raju and state secretary P. Raja Rao, who participated in a dharna at Collector's Office, felt that the increase in fuel rates would further burden the common man as it will push up prices of essential commodities and make their life miserable.
Later, they burnt effigy of the government. IFTU too staged protest demonstrations at the same place and threatened to intensify agitation as it would affect the working class.
Praja Rajyam and CPI organised protests at RTC Complex against the issue.K. gowri shankar (PRP) and B. Suribabu (CPI) led the demonstrators.
At S.Kota, the TDP president and MLA Kolla Lalitha Kumari organised a rally from RTC Complex to Devi Bomma junction and organized rasta-roko there. She told this correspondent over phone that the UPA Government hiked the fuel charges 14 times so far during the last six years. She criticised the state government for not implementing the election-eve promise to supply LPG at Rs. 100. She described the policies of the present government as anti-poor.
At Salur, CPI (M) organised rasta roko at tehsildar's office, M. Krishna Murty, the party district secretary participated.
