Even after pedalling for the past five months, covering a distance of 10,260 km, Ayurvedic doctor Raj Phanden feels that there is still a long way to go.
In a move to educate people on environmental issues and encourage them to become green ambassadors to save the planet, he started off a10-year-long cycle expedition at Bhuna in Fatehbad district of Haryana on September 5 last year.
Aiming to cover 2 lakh km by 2026, Dr. Phanden has so far covered 16 States and 1,500 km stretch in Sri Lanka as well. He reached the City of Destiny on Friday and participated in a programme at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya. “Interacting with students at every destination is part of my expedition. By giving a detailed presentation on how small steps to conserve the planet would go a long way, I only hope to inspire them to do their bit to conserve nature,” says Dr. Phanden, who is all set to visit Odisha and West Bengal as part of his next itinerary.
Fully equipped cycle
His cycle has all necessary tools and devices to help him navigate any terrain effortlessly. With Lions Club and All India Navodaya Alumni Association extending support, Dr. Phanden says he is not finding it tough to accomplish his task.
“However, at times it is little difficult to get vegetarian food all the time and have to manage with bread and jam,” he says.
According to him environment plays an imperative role in maintaining one’s health as he lost his father to cancer, his mother expired due to heart attack and lost his wife in a road accident.
