Notices served on IT companies: Minister

Notices have been issued to IT companies Wipro and Tech Mahindra on providing jobs in Visakhapatnam as per the MoUs signed, IT Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy has informed MLC M.V.S. Sarma.

The MLC raised the issue in the Legislative Council and wanted to know whether the MoUs signed with the companies covered the number of jobs to be provided and what was the action the government contemplated to take against them in case it was not implemented.

The Minister said as per the MoU Tech Mahindra had to provide 5,000 jobs and Wipro to 6,400.

Since the companies did not provide jobs, notices were issued and action would be taken to ensure that employment was provided.

The government was also firm on companies in IT SEZs giving jobs, he added.

Mr. Sarma joined the other Opposition members and walked out of the Council in protest against the Central government not declaring special category status to Andhra Pradesh.
