EXCHANGE GREETINGS: J. Poornachandra Rao and N. Sambasiva Rao greeting each other in the city on Thursday.

J. Poornachandra Rao, who took over as Police Commissioner of Visakhapatnam, said on Thursday that he would strive to make the Police Department more accessible to the people.

He took charge in the afternoon from N. Sambasiva Rao, who has been promoted as Director of the AP Police Academy in the rank of Additional DGP.

In a brief chat with the media, Mr. Poornachandra Rao described Visakhapatnam as a beautiful and peaceful city. He said that though it was his first posting in the city, he was here on several occasions before. He felt that the exponential growth of the city on various fronts like IT and tourism could lead to a spurt in law and order problems and said that he would initiate steps to prevent such a situation. The people could meet him and directly give him their grievances on law and order problems.

The outgoing Police Commissioner N. Sambasiva Rao thanked the people of the city for their cooperation during his two and half-year stint in the city.

Deputy Inspector-General (Visakhpatnam Range) Soumya Mishra called on the new Police Commissioner.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) K.V.V. Gopala Rao was present. Later, the new police chief held a review meeting with the police officials.
