A state-of-the-art modern bus terminus with 45 to 50 bus bays and a multiplex will soon come up on the six-acre RTC land at Maddilapalem, according to Executive Director (operations) of AP State Road Transport Corporation (APS RTC) G.V. Ramana Rao.

The Executive Director along with Director (central projects) R. Sashidhar was on a visit to the city on Friday as part of the process of listing of assets of the corporation and to look at the prospects of generating revenue for the corporation.

A new depot has been already been constructed at Madhurawada and the Maddilapalem Depot would be shifted there in a couple of months. The depot and present bus terminus site would be handed over to a bidder on lease for development on Build Operate Transfer (BOT)-basis. The bidder would have to construct the modern bus terminus with around 50 bus bays providing all modern facilities like information system, as per our specifications, Mr. Ramana Rao said in a chat with the media.

The bus bays and one or two floors would be developed for use by RTC, while the remaining floors could be commercially exploited by the bidder. The land leased to CMR Central at Maddilapalem was generating good income to the corporation. The RTC Officers’ Guest House on the Beach Road in the city would also be given for development. Mr. Ramana Rao said tenders were called for installation of solar panels at 92 RTC bus stations and depots in Andhra Pradesh including the one at Dwaraka Bus Station (DBS) in the city.
