VISAKHAPATNAM: The city police on Saturday arrested Kosaraju Narasimha Rao (42) on charge of burglary.

His wife Yendeti Ganga was arrested on similar charge in January.

The couple, and a few others, were wanted in 48 property offences in Visakhapatnam and East Godavari districts.

The police recovered 605 grams of gold ornaments and a car from Narasimha Rao.

DCP (Crime) T. Ravi Kumar Murthy said Narasimha Rao was a native of Eluru in West Godavari district.

A school dropout, he had come to Visakhapatnam in search of livelihood in 2002 and worked in a private high-profile club.

He was a tenant in Ganga’s house.

After the death of Ganga’s second husband, Narasimha Rao had developed an affair with her. He later married Ganga and the couple were blessed with a girl child.

However, to lead a lavish life, Narasimha Rao and Ganga not only committed property offences but also resorted to trafficking in women, the DCP said.

The couple had committed over 48 property offences between 2014 and 2016 in Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and East Godavari districts.

Explaining the modus operandi , Mr. Ravi Kumar said Narasimha Rao and Ganga would first conduct a recce of locked houses in a car in the morning. At night, they would break open the locks using mini crowbars and make good with the booty.

The couple, along with a few others, had stolen 3,370 grams of gold and some cash, the DCP said.

“We arrested Ganga in January this year and recovered 500 grams of gold. We have arrested Rao in Rajamahendravaram and recovered 605 grams of gold jewellery.

“We are on the job of recovering the remaining stolen property,” said Mr. Ravi Kumar.
