Know your rights, consumers told

Joint Collector P. Satyanarayana Reddy has advised the consumers to be aware of their rights and responsibilities and exercise care and caution in all their purchases of goods and services.

Addressing a meeting organised by Consumer Protection Council, Visakhapatnam, on the occasion of World Consumer Rights Day on Monday, he also explained the functioning of civil supplies department which was under his control and sought consumers to bring to the notice of the department officials any irregularity in the functioning of fair price shops and rytu bazaars. Presidents of District Consumer Forums - N. Jagannadha Rao (Forum I) and N. Sarojini Naidu (Forum II) explained the Consumer Protection Act and the speedy disposal of cases at the Forums. Principal of Law College in Andhra University A. Rajendra Prasad, Prof. Rajyalakshmi, and Head of BIS P. Radhakrishna spoke. Earlier, president of the council M. Krishna Murthy who welcomed the gathering detailed the activities of the council. He also conveyed the unhappiness of consumers about the recent hike in Visakha milk price which was immediately followed by hike in petrol prices. Secretary P.K. Lingeswara Rao and vice-president BDV Prasad proposed vote of thanks.
