The southwest monsoon remains unpredictable since its delayed onset this year.

While the city had been starving for a good spell of rain, the only respite came in the form of a short spell of thunderstorm activity on Tuesday evening.

Days hot

Though the spell was short and lasted only for an hour, it surely lifted the spirits of the people.

However, the day remained hot and sultry.

The maximum temperature recorded in the city on Tuesday was 36.4 degree Celsius.

Though occasional showers brought temporary relief, there was not much to cheer about on the monsoon front.

The low pressure area that had developed over North Bay fizzled out sooner than expected.

Low pressure

According to the Cyclone Warning Centre (CWC), monsoon activity was not likely to take off before the next four to five days.

“Rainfall has not been up to the mark.

“However, a low pressure area is likely to form in the next four to five days in North Bay, which may bring rainfall in the region,” said Prasad Rao of the CWC.

He said that this was a lull period and the southwest monsoon would take some time to trigger off.

Model predictions suggest no improvement in the situation and hence poor chances of revival of monsoon flow during next three to four days.

North coastal Andhra Pradesh may receive rain or thunderstorm at a few places while isolated rainfall may occur at a few places in South coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next 24 hours.
