The Hindu , in association with Shriram Panorama Hills, will organise a novel event to mark the International Dance Day on Friday, at Vaisakhi Kala Vedika in VUDA Park from 5.30 p.m. Apart from performances by young artistes in various dance forms, renowned Kuchipudi dancer from the city and Sangeetha Nataka Academy awardee Pasumarthy Seetharamaiah will be felicitated on the occasion. Internationally acclaimed dancer ‘Kala ratna' Swathi Somnath will be guest of honour while the District Collector J. Syamala Rao will be chief guest.

The details of performing artistes are –students of Chandana Dance Academy (Kuchipudi), Nritya Kalabharati (Bharatanatyam), Amiya Ranjan Jena (Odissi), students of St. Anns School, Buchirajupalem (Mohiniattam), Sai Lawrance Dance troupe (modern dance), ten member team from Araku (Dhimsa), and Jalari dance by K. Sai Sampath Kumar, son of ‘Andhra Jalari' D.Y. Sampath Kumar of Vizianagaram.

The International Dance Committee in 1982 declared April 29 as International Dance Day to commemorate the birthday of legendary French dancer Jean-Georges Noverre. The celebrations aim at bringing all dance forms together on the day to cross all political, cultural and ethnic barriers for peace and camaraderie. Normally dance programmes are held indoors but this year, it was proposed to make it get closer to nature by celebrating the day in open spaces, streets, squares, parks, stadiums, beaches, parking lots and other open spaces
