Though it is suspected that Sasi Kumar might have committed suicide, police feel the pistol could have gone off accidentally.

The case relating to the death of IPS officer K. Sasi Kumar, who was found dead in a pool of blood at his office at Paderu on Thursday morning, has been handed over to the A.P. Crime Investigation Department (CID). The CID team visited the spot for gathering evidence.

The officer’s mother fainted and his father wept inconsolably on seeing the body of their son at the KGH mortuary when they arrived here on Thursday. The body is expected to be flown to his native village of Satyamangalam in Erode district on Friday.

Sasi Kumar (29), an IPS officer of the 2012 batch, was posted as an Assistant Superintendent of Police at Paderu in Visakhapatnam about six months ago. The sound of bullet being fired was heard from the ASP’s chamber around 6 a.m. The sentry, on duty, rushed in and found the ASP in a pool of blood with the bullet pierced through his temple. His service pistol was found in the room. Sasi Kumar was rushed to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. This was Sasi Kumar’s third posting after his first stint as ASP (Greyhounds), and second as ASP at Allagadda in Kurnool district.

Accident or suicide?

Though it is suspected that Sasi Kumar might have committed suicide, police feel the pistol could have gone off accidentally when the ASP was checking its functioning.

“We are not sure whether the bullet went off accidentally or was triggered intentionally. The facts will come out only when the enquiry is completed,” Superintendent of Police (Visakhapatnam Rural) Rahul Dev Sharma said.

Sasi Kumar was an Engineering graduate from Anna University. His father Kuppuswamy is a farmer and mother a home-maker.
