Care for the environment? It's time to shun plastic and synthetic products and go for natural materials like fibre, jute and cotton in our day-to-day use. The natural materials not only help us in keeping our bodies cool from the sweltering summer heat but their use also provides employment to artisans.
Sounds interesting? Rush to the exhibition-cum-sale of handicrafts being organised by the Youth Club of Bejjipuram (YCB) at Maharashtra Mandal at Asilametta.
Reasonable prices
Readymade dresses for children made with Crochet Lace in natural colours and different designs are elegant, to say the least. They aren't expensive either. They can be bought for prices as low as Rs.150. Khadi shirts are available for Rs.200. Cotton nighties in bright colours, dress materials, saris, bed sheets, pillow covers, Kashmiri shawls and a host of other items are on display and the prices are reasonable.
Toys from Etikoppaka, Kondapalli, pearls, Kalamkari paintings and printings can enliven your drawing room. The jute handicrafts include colourful wall hangings in different shapes and sizes, doormats, handbags, belts, hammocks and swings.
“This is our fourth exhibition in the city. We made sales to the tune of Rs.8 lakhs during the last exhibition and our target this time is Rs.15 lakhs. A total of 35 artisan societies are participating in this expo,” YCB president M. Prasada Rao said.
Earlier, Additional Commissioner of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation S. Krishna Murthy inaugurated the exhibition. Retired Divisional Forest Officer G. Paul Prabhakar, Deputy Director of MSME (Micro Small and Medium Enterprises) N.T. Naidu and Senior Project Executive of Rashtriya Gramin Vikas Nidhi N. Govinda Rao were present at the inaugural function.
The exhibition will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on all days till February 28.
