Former sarpanch anti-people: Maoists

January 15, 2016 12:00 am | Updated September 23, 2016 12:43 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Ten days after killing former Sarpanch of Jerrela and Director of the Chintapalli Market Committee Sagina Venkataramana, the banned CPI (Maoist) gave the reason for its act saying that people considered him anti-people. It also demanded some Telugu Desam and BJP leaders by name and asked them to quit their party and posts and join the agitation against bauxite mining plans of the government.

Venkataramana was killed by the Maoists on Jan. 5 at his village. In a letter sent to reporters in Agency area, the Korukonda area committee of the CPI (Maoist) said in 2008 Venkataramana when he was the Sarpanch had forged the signatures of the Gram Panchayat and prepared a resolution in favour of bauxite mining. Now the TDP was trying to make use of the resolution to go ahead with bauxite mining, the Maoists’ letter claimed. The party alleged that Venkataramana projected himself as anti-bauxite mining crusader but was actually gathering support to the mining proposal. The party alleged that BJP leader Lokula Gandhi, TDP leaders M. Manikumari, Mukkala Mahesh, B. Nagaraju, M.V.V. Prasad and others were trying to deceive the people by their anti-bauxite mining stand. If they were sincere they should quit their parties and demand scrapping of GO No. 97, it said.
