Festival of environmental documentaries from today

In an effort to turn the focus on environmental issues, a three-day documentary film festival is being organised by Paryavarana Margadarsi Vaisakhi, Bangalore Film Society, Vizag Film Society and Environmental Film Society from February 16 to 18 at Public Library, Dwarakanagar, in the city.

The documentaries that will be screened are ‘Sponges of the Earth’ by director Subosh Kumar, ‘Dammed’ by Nandan Saxena and Kavita Bahl, Saraswati Kavula’s ‘Dam’ned’, Canadian filmmaker Todd Southgate’s ‘Democracy’, Turkish documentary ‘Damn the Dams’ by Osman Sissman and Ozlem Sarivildiz and ‘Sea The Truth’ by Joost de Haci from Netherlands.

The documentaries being screened will focus on the development strategies followed by governments all over the world, including India. From issues like conservation and protection of wetlands, displacement of villagers due to construction of large dams and power plants to degeneration of oceans world over, the documentaries bring to light several hard hitting topics. The documentaries will be screened from 6 p.m. onwards and there is no entry fee.
