It’s not just about romantic dinners this time. Couples in the city are taking creativity to a whole new level in their quest for love.

Priya Challapalli, IT professional, has booked a car on rent from a self-drive car company in the city to take her fiancé on a long drive followed by a filmy style proposal at a beach near Vizianagaram. “It is going to be a big surprise for him. I have planned a live band on the beach with my friends and red balloons all over and will gift him a bouquet of roses and a ring. This will be a special Valentine’s Day for us before we enter the wedlock this year end and I want to make it memorable for us,” said the 27-year-old, beaming with excitement. Ch. While couples getting inked as a mark of their love ain’t a new phenomenon, but this year more couples have joined in the lovey-dovey tattoo trend, according to tattoo artists in the city. “For the past one week, we have seen more than 20 couples coming for tattoos specifically for V-Day. This trend has grown from the past couple of years when we would get requests from just a handful couples,” said Meer Shabbir Ali, tattoo artist at Ouch and co-founder of The Gallery.

According to Ali, couples are becoming experimental with their designs and themes. While names and heart-shaped designs and ring tattoos on fingers are the popular ones, innovation is also in the air when it comes to the designs couples are opting for. “Tatoos signifying the essence of their relationship like travel through biking tattoos are also being done,” he added.

Meanwhile, city malls are resplendent in the colour red with heart shaped designs all over. While major hotels have come up with their Valentine’s Day special menu and offers, city cafes have added a special flavour too. Tea Trails has decided to sprinkle an element of surprise for couples and singles alike by their ‘Blast a Balloon’ theme. “Throughout the day, every customer who walks in will get a red balloon to burst which will have a voucher or some gift as a special V-Day gesture from our side,” said Priya Gummaluri of Tea Trails. Home bakers and bakery units have seen a surge in demand for specially designed V-Day cakes.
