District Collector J. Syamala Rao, who visited the Victoria Hospital on Wednesday, asked its Superintendent Subhadevi to solve the problems in the hospital so as to provide better treatment to patients.
Before inspecting the wards, the Collector had a meeting with the Superintendent and the staff. The Superintendent told the Collector that the posts of dietician, electrician, plumber and nurses and other Class IV staff were vacant.
On being informed that two head nurses were posted on deputation to the King George Hospital, Mr. Syamala Rao spoke to the KGH Superintendent and the latter told him that they were being relieved from the KGH.
The Collector enquired about the status of Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric Neonatal Care (CEMONC) Centre and was told that the construction of the building was over but there was no equipment. He spoke to the DM&HO about the beds, equipment and staff in the yet- to-be inaugurated CEMONC Centre and visited the building. The Collector also enquired about the maternity cases, family planning operations and the implementation of Rajiv Arogyasree health insurance scheme at the hospital.
Mr. Syamala Rao ordered that the air-conditioning of ultrasound scan and lights and fans in the wards be repaired. He saw the conditions in the wards and enquired from patients about the facilities and treatment. He asked the Superintendent to inquire into the charge by a woman about demand for money by the staff.
Swine flu centre
Mr. Syamala Rao visited the Government Hospital for Chest Diseases and inspected the swine flu centre there. Superintendent Subba Rao said while on an average 20 patients were turning up, there was no confirmed case of swine flu. They were being given tamiflu. The addresses of patients were being taken and their condition monitored.
At the Government Hospital for Mental Health, he suggested that the possibility of outsourcing the services of staff nurses and some technical staff be explored.
During his visit to the ENT Hospital, Superintendent M.V. Appa Rao urged the Collector to spare administrative staff.
