Nobel Laureate Sir C.V. Raman was fond of physics right from his childhood. Once when he was sailing through the Mediterranean Sea, he was intrigued by the deep blue waters of the sea which led him to carry out path-breaking research on the scattering effects of sunlight and discover the theory of ‘Raman effect’, the staff of Department of Physics, Electronics and Computer Science, Mrs. A.V.N. College, said.
The professors were addressing the students of various branches who assembled to pay respect to Sir C.V. Raman on the occasion of his 127th birth anniversary here on Friday. The staff felt that it was an honour that the renowned scientist had spent 10 years studying up to F.A. on the premises.
After garlanding the bronze bust of Sir C.V. Raman, college principal Vedula Perraju spoke on how the illustrious alumnus nurtured scientific thought process.
Vice-principal T.L. Rambabu and former principal of AVN Polytechnic College P.V.C. Sarma said that the present generation should draw inspiration from the great scientist who was known for his simplicity and hard working nature.
