Andhra University administration decided to withdraw the steep hike in semester examination fee following a four-hour demonstration by the students in front of the central administrative office building on Monday.

Students turned up in full strength in the campus colleges after an “extended” Dasara vacation on Monday for the second mid-semester examination on Monday and Tuesday and were surprised to see the notice regarding payment of fee for the second semester. The fee of Rs. 35 each had paid for a semester examination till now was increased to Rs. 515 this time.

Some hundreds of students from different campus colleges gathered in front of the CAO demanding the AU administration to roll back the hike in fee.

A couple of them climbed the terrace of the CAO building and threatened to commit suicide by jumping from the top of building. The Three Town Police quickly reached the campus.

After holding discussions Registrar P.V.G.D. Prasada Reddy announced that the fee hike had been withdrawn.
