Sarthak Silk Handloom Welfare Society is holding an exhibition of handlooms and handicrafts at Maharashtra Mandal.

The expo has a wide range of sarees, dress materials, duppatas and stoles, bedsheets and cushion covers and an array of handicrafts from different states of the country.

A discount of 20 per cent on handlooms and 10 per cent on handicrafts is offered at the exhibition, which began on Friday.

This was possible by eliminating middlemen, as the weavers were directly selling their products across the counters, said president of Sarthak Silk Handloom Welfare Society from New Delhi Vijay Chugh, the organiser of the show.

As many as 60 weavers from about 20 States are participating in the 10-day exhibition where sarees, dresses and kurtas of Gurajati cotton, chikan work from Lucknow, embroidery works dresses, Gadwal border and silk tissues, Sambalpur, Bengal, Bhagalpur and other places are on display.

A speciality

“Our speciality is Bombay chikan and Lucknowi chikan, which are not available elsewhere and at such low rates,” he stated. This was the second time the society was conducting an exhibition in the city after the overwhelming response it received last year, he said.

A good variety of blankets from Pochampally, Jaipur, Uttar Pradesh, Panipat, Gujarat, dress materials from Orissa, Bengal, Kotadoira, Maharashtra and ready-mades from Pochampalli were available.

Also, colourful bangles from Rajasthan, unbreakable bangles studded with stone and beads, silver jewellery, lacquer jewellery, brassware, Orissa paintings, toys and other handicrafts are on display-cum-sale at the exhibition, which is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily till June 21.
