AECOM to prepare DPR for smart streets

A detailed project report on developing smart streets of 7 km stretch with international standards will be prepared by consultants AECOM, District Collector and GVMC Special Officer Pravin Kumar has said.

The roads would be modelled on the ones in Bangalore with international standards with footpaths, cycling tracks and aimed at reducing carbon emissions.

Command and Control Centre at GVMC and modernisation of schools were also taken up by Greater Visakhapatnam Smart City Corporation, the Collector said.

A meeting with the stakeholders - Transport, RTC and Traffic and APEPDCL - and officials of Water Supply and Sewerage wings of GVMC was held on Monday.

While 4.9 km of the 7-km stretch falls on Waltair Main Road 2.1 km is in China Waltair covered in area-based development in the Smart City plan of the Union Government.

MP K. Haribabu wanted officials to create awareness among people and take up the task with their participation.

Municipal Commissioner M. Hari Narayanan said conditions on roads would be improved with focus on vendors and parking.

Vishal Kundra of AECOM made a detailed presentation on the need for smart (complete) streets, problems involved and a solution to them.

APEPDCL Superintendent Engineer Surya Prakash and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Kinjarapu Prabhakar spoke of the issues related to underground cabling and traffic respectively.

Chief City Planner A. Suresh Kumar and Zone Commissioners Nallanayya and Chakradhar participated.
