AE in ACB net

An Assistant Engineer of the Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL) was caught by the Anti-Corruption Bureau while he was allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹50,000 from a complainant, here on Tuesday.

The engineer was identified as Verenki Ranga Rao, assistant engineer of Atchutapuram.

According to the DSP of ACB Kinjarapu Ramakrishna Prasad, the AE demanded a bribe of ₹ 50,000 from one B. Ravi Verma for installing a transformer and providing the power connection at the latter’s house cum garage.

The complainant runs a bus transport business and asked the AE to provide the service, for which he demanded the bribe.

The engineer was caught by the ACB officials who were present at the complainant’s house when he took the money.

“The bribe money was coated with chemicals, and both hands of the engineer tested positive in the chemical test,” said Mr. Ramakrishna Prasad.

The engineer joined APEPDCL in the year 2000 and it is learnt that the ACB is also probing into the assets of Ranga Rao.

“He may also be booked under disproportionate assets case and we are investigating his assets,” said the ACB DSP.
