10 lakh saplings to be planted in a day in Srikakulam

As per the direction given by the State Government, the district administration would take up the programme of planting 10 lakh saplings in a single day all over the district, during July, Collector N. Srikanth said at a meeting with the officers of Forest Department here on Saturday.

He told the officials to make arrangements for the programme with the help of all government and non-governmental officials. Government would announce a day for the programme but the preparations must be made in advance, he said.

Saplings must be planted on the premises of all Government colleges, schools and the welfare hostels, on either side of the roads, housing colonies, on the banks of tanks repaired during the employment guarantee scheme, etc. the Collector said. The Social Forestry wing should supply the saplings.

Divisional Forest Officer (social forestry) B. Srirama Murthy informed that 22 lakh casuarina saplings were readily available with the Social Forestry wing.

Additional Joint Collector T. Babu Rao Naidu, DFO Rammohan Rao, Deputy Director (social welfare) M. Chandramouliswara Rao, Executive Engineer of R and B Sahoo, CPO Ramudu, Project Director of DWMA D. Narayana Rao, DEO Vaikuntha Rao and other officers participated.
