‘M Wallet’ introduced in Telangana

August 20, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 10:24 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

The Telangana government has introduced Digital Driving License and Registration Certificate, which could be downloaded by the motorist concerned in Telangana State from the RTA M Wallet, according to Telangana Transport Commissioner Sandeep Kumar Sultania.

Speaking to newsmen on the sidelines of the two-day National Workshop on Road Safety, which got under way here on Friday, the Telangana Transport Commissioner spoke about the various initiatives being taken by the Telangana Government to improve road safety and reduce road accidents in Telangana.

He said 13 lakh downloads of ‘M Wallet’ were made in the first three months of its launch in the State. The replica of the driving license, RC and insurance could be stored on the mobile phone and produce them, whenever demanded by the enforcement authorities.

He said the Telangana government has decided to set up Traffic Police Stations for every 50 km for effective enforcement. A trauma care centre would also be set up on the police station premises. There were also plans to establish wayside amenities for truck drivers to reduce driver fatigue when they go on long drives. The matter was already taken to the notice of the Centre.

Mr. Sandeep Kumar said the Centre had expressed its intention to call tenders for setting up such amenities at 70 places in the country, provided the State governments were ready to give the land required for the purpose. All the work pertaining to the Transport Department in Telangana has been fully computerised and citizens have to invariably avail of the services online. This was done to increase transparency and minimise corruption.

The Department has tied up with e-seva and mee-seva centres in rural areas to enable motorists to access the online services. Applicants have to book their slots for all their works with the department, make their submission and payments online. All the offices of the Transport Department, except those at the check posts, have been made ‘cashless’.
