Filmmaker Allani Sridhar considers cinema a powerful weapon to convey a social message and influence young minds.
Though the process of filmmaking has been simplified to a great extent, he feels there is a dearth of quality movies where parents can hardly watch with their children without a trace of embarrassment.
Besides revealing that his forthcoming Chilukuru Balaji , starring S.P. Balasubrahmanyam, Sai Kumar, Suman and Bhanushree Mehra, is slated to go on the floors next month, the director-producer says he has a larger task on hand.
In a step towards educating youngsters through a series of short films and documentaries, Mr. Sridhar, who was here in the city on Friday, says he is all set to launch classroom cinema concept across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. “Packing dramatic elements and a message to deliver, the new concept aims at reaching out to young minds, encouraging them to enhance their emotional intelligence and confidence level,” shares the director who won Nandi award for his critically acclaimed biopic Komaram Bheem .
The short films will be based on customised scripts to help the youth cope with stress, failure and depression and health issues.
“After receiving a tremendous response for screening ‘Telisi Teliyani Vayasu’, a short film, aimed at creating awareness on HIV/AIDS for those studying Classes IX and X, we wanted to take up the classroom cinema concept as a constant endeavour.
The focus is also on advocating family values and effective crisis management involving school management, government, film societies and organisations,” he says.
As chairman of the jury of the 19{+t}{+h}International Children’s Film Festival of India, Mr. Sridhar says the forum introduced him to new dimensions of filmmaking.
“The global exposure gave birth to the classroom cinema concept. However, to make this long-term project a reality, we intend to tap corporate social responsibility funds of companies,” Mr. Sridhar adds.
