Rajagopal of YSR Congress Party was unanimously elected Chairman of the Jaggayyapeta municipality.

Telugu Desam Party councillors boycotted the election after the presiding officer and Vijayawada Sub-Collector Hareesh Rao turned down their request to postpone the election. The TDP councillors sought postponement of the election alleging kidnap of two councillors of the party.

“We conducted the election as per the guidelines of the Election Commission and Mr. Rajagopal was elected Chairman of the municipality,” Mr. Hareesh Rao said. Of the total 27 councillors, the YSR Congress Party has 16 councillors.
