Many wards in the city get fewer applications than the actual number of posts

The extension of last date and relaxation of educational qualification from degree to intermediate for submission of applications for the post of Ward Volunteer has apparently not yielded the desired response from the youth in the city as of Tuesday.

As many as 43 out of 59 wards received applications less than the number of volunteers required according to VMC officials.

VMC commissioner V. Prasanna Venkatesh, in a release, called upon the youth to apply for the posts before Wednesday night.

The wards that received the minimum required number of applications are 1, 6, 12, 13, 14, 15, 19, 22, 23, 35, 46, 48, 56, 57, 58 and 59, according to the release issued by the VMC commissioner.

A similar situation prevailed in various other Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in the State. Six districts, including Anantapur, East Godavari, Guntur, Kurnool, Visakhapatnam and Kadapa, have received more than 55% of the total number of 1.48 lakh Ward Volunteer applications so far.

Last date extended

The registration process which was supposed to end on July 5 has been extended to July 10 as the number of candidates applied until then was just above one lakh for 110 Urban Local Bodies in the State. Typically, a Ward Volunteer has to take care of 100 households.
