Satish Dawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR, Sriharikota, has been celebrating World Space Week in three cities in the State from October 4 to 10. For the first time, Sriharikota High Altitude Range (SHAR) is celebrating space week outside the SHAR Centre. The celebrations would be organised in Vijayawada from October 7 to 9.
The theme of the three-day event is to highlight the experiments being done by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), explain the successful projects, importance of researches and space technology, said SHAR authorities.
The exhibition is open to all and all school, junior and degree colleges, professional colleges, other educational institutions and public can visit the expo free of cost. Space exhibition will be kept open from 10 a.m. to 4 a.m. There is no ticket for visiting the exhibition.
In Vijayawada, SHAR in association with A.P. State Council of Science and Technology (APCOST) and Gandhi Hill Foundation is organising the exhibition at Gandhi Hill. On October 9, competitions will be held for students at APCOST, said Regional Science Centre (RSC), (Vijayawada), APCOST, Project Officer J. Dhilleswara Rao.
“We will display models of different satellites, rockets, Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV), Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV), student stats and other replicas. Teachers and technical persons would be arranged for presenting demo on the models,” said SHAR Deputy General Manager and event coordinator B.V. Subba Rao.
Topics for the competitions will be ‘Developments in space technology in India’, ‘ISRO projects-Advantages to common man’ and the related subjects. Prizes will be distributed to the toppers in essay writing, quiz and painting competitions at the valedictory function to be held on October 9 at APCOST, Bhavanipuram, in Vijayawada at 4.30 p.m.
SHAR Director Kunhi Krishnan will distribute prizes to the winners. M.N.A. Group Director Vijaya Saradhi, public representatives, officials of APCOST, Gandhi Hill Foundation and Vijayawada Municipal Corporation will attend the event.
