In a tragic incident, a woman and three children were charred to death in a fire that took place in a house at Veerisetty Gudem village of Kamavarapukota mandal in West Godavari district on Thursday.

The accident took place in the house of one Ketha Nageswara Rao early on Thursday in which his wife Lakshmi (30) and their children Aparna (11) and Lavanya (10) and Pitani Manikantha (13) died. Neighbours tried to control the flames, but fire engulfed the home following a gas cylinder explosion.

According to police sources, Nageswara Rao and Lakshmi had differences over the past several months and Lakshmi’s relatives suspected the hand of the husband in the incident. Chintalapudi police Inspector Rajesh and his team visited the spot and registered a case.

M. Raviprakash, West Godavari SP, said the case had been booked under Section 174 as suspicious death. He said the relatives of Lakshmi suspected Nageswara Rao’s role.

MLC Ramu Suryarao visited Pitani Rangamma, co-sister of Lakshmi, who sustained serious burns. He asked the doctors to give quality treatment to her and said he would approach the police for prompt action.
