A 30-year-old woman committed suicide in an incident reported at Karlapalem village in Bapatla mandal on Monday morning.
Sub Inspector of Police Venkat Rao said that the woman identified as Raavi Bhoolakshmi might have taken the extreme step unable to cope with the loss of her husband Nagendra Reddy who was killed in a road accident six months back.
The couple has two boys, aged 8 and 6 respectively.
The police said that the woman consumed a drink laced with pesticide and then gave the drink to the children. The children, who were treated at a private hospital in Ponnur, survived.
Police have registered a case under section 174 Cr.P.C and are investigating.
