The ‘Why go to Hyderabad’ campaign launched by the Manipal Hospitals is the need of the hour for Andhra Pradesh, Minister for Health Kamineni Srinivas has said.

Addressing a gathering after launching the campaign on the eighth anniversary of the Vijayawada hospital of the Manipal group, the Minister said Andhra Pradesh was given a raw deal in bifurcation and the loss of the residuary State was the worst when it came to the health sector.

“Not even a single important health institution has been given to Andhra Pradesh. Now, blood samples has to be sent to Hyderabad for confirmation of swine flu infection,” Dr. Srinivas lamented.

All important health care institutions were set up in the erstwhile capital and it was a habit for doctors in the rest of the State to refer every case to Hyderabad. There was a need for a campaign like “Why go to Hyderadad?” the Minister said.

Manipal Hospitals MD and CEO Ajay Bakshi said the facilities had all the required specialities and they never compromised on their high ethical standards.

Dr. Bakshi said that the Oncology wing of the Vijayawada hospital was one of the best in the region.

While autologous bone marrow transplants were already being performed here, allogenic bone marrow transplant procedure would be available soon. He said that Vijayawada was emerging as the healthcare capital of Andhra Pradesh.
