The Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) Special Commissioner N. Srikanth has instructed the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) to examine the proposal of installing the statues of famous personalities in the city on the lines of those on Tank Bund in Hyderabad.

A special review meeting was conducted at CRDA office on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Mr. Srikanth in which City Police Commissioner A.B.Venkateswara Rao, Municipal Commissioner C. Hari Kiran and other senior officials from different departments participated.

With the city attaining special focus owing to the construction of capital and increased flow of vehicles, the authorities are now laying emphasis on traffic regulation, Mr. Srikanth stressed on the need for reducing the size of major rotaries to facilitate easy traffic movement, besides relocating electric poles that were causing hindrance to the vehicular movement. Now that the city is under the CRDA limits, more VIPs will be visiting the city frequently and there is a need to focus on traffic regulation, he said.

He sought details on traffic regulation on the routes connecting Gannavaram airport with the city, Bandar road, Eluru road, Bhavanipuram road and wanted the officials to monitor traffic movement on these stretches.

Mr. Venkateswara Rao suggested it was time to take up road widening works on Bandar road and development of rotaries at all traffic signals in the city. A report has been prepared on the traffic issues, carrying the measures to be taken to address them, he explained.

VMC Commissioner C. Hari Kiran informed that there quite a few rotaries with statues of famous personalities in the city and as part of beautification, water fountains were being set up.

He said proposals were being made to plant saplings on the roadside. The Roads and Buildings Department has been instructed to submit a report on the repairs taken up on the damaged roads, besides future expansion plans, said a press release.
