To make public and private organisations and resident welfare associations participate in the Swachh Bharat initiative of the government, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation will conduct cleanliness competitions in the name of Swachh Vijayawada Award in five categories, including schools, hotels, hospitals, residential welfare associations (RWAs) and market associations of the city.

Announcing the competition here at a press conference, Municipal Commissioner J. Nivas said any organisation falling under any of the five categories can participate in the competition.

The competition as part of Swachh Survekshan will look for the best organisation or association that maintains cleanliness and sanitation and select them for the awards.

“Garbage disposal, greenery, innovative ideas, proper wall paintings and other factors on the premises of the applicants will be mainly considered during verification. The criteria will also vary depending on the category. Schools should hold awareness programmes, maintain proper toilets, dustbins while RWAs should ensure proper drains and greenery. Hotels should be tidy and provide facilities including best customer service for their clients. The teams of VMC will visit every applicant's property and colonies and verify the claims before giving the score and rankings in a transparent process,” Mr. Nivas said. In the ranking process, approach and methodology of the organisations, documents and others will be verified.

Applications can be collected from Chief Medical and Health Officer Babu Srinivas and should be submitted before November 15. Also, the best scorers will be sent for national level competitions.
