Samaikyandhra activists cutting across party lines laid siege to Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal’s house in a programme conducted by the APNGOs Association and the Samaikyandhra Students JAC here on Monday.
The city police took into custody a few NGO leaders, some of them women, when they tried to force their way into the office-cum-residence of the MP. Unfortunately for the activists, the MP was not in station. The people in the MP’s office, however, arranged for the MP to speak to the agitators.
Former Minister and TDP veteran Vadde Sobhandreeswara Rao was a surprise guest at the dharna. Mr. Rao participated in the dharna and raised slogans opposing the division of the State. The Student JAC leaders have planned a rally from Benz Circle in Vijayawada on the M.G. Road to IGMC Stadium on Tuesday to show their displeasure at the Congress high command’s likely decision to divide the State.
Tight security
Heavy bandobust was arranged for the MP’s house by the city police. The activists tried to enter through the main gate of the house. When the police prevented them from doing this they entered neighbouring buildings and raised slogans against division of the State.
