Vijayasri bags two medals at National Masters event

Swimmer Vijayasri Gupta hogged the limelight at the 12th National Masters Aquatic Championship held at Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) from October 9 to 11.

The annual three-day event organised by the Swimming Federation of India attracts talented veteran swimmers of various age groups and nearly 390 participants took part in the meet from 19 States.

Ms. Vijayasri Gupta, a grandmother and committed swimmer for more than four decades, was the only women contestant in the 51-member Andhra Pradesh contingent.

The sexagenarian won silver in the 50 meters butterfly event and later bagged a bronze in the 100-meter backstroke event. In the keenly contested 200-metre freestyle event, she finished fourth.

Never misses training

Ms. Vijayasri apart from a home-maker and business woman, is an ardent swimmer and never misses her training stint at the Sir Vizzi swimming pool.

Ms. Vijayasri has been a regular member of the Andhra Pradesh team for the Masters and she won dozens of medals for the city and the State.

Vijayasri is the only women contestant in the 51-member AP contingent
